New Sunrise offers in comparison

03 February 2009 - Communication

On February 16 the cell phone provider Sunrise will bring new offers on the market. The merry-go-round of cell phone offers continuously rotates: How will these new rates look compared to the old Sunrise rates? And what will the comparison with other providers show us? – Comparis made the following comparison: 180 minutes calls und 40 text messages per month. The result displays: As usual a prepaid offer is the cheapest solution (Aldi Suisse / CHF 47.20). Considering subscriptions, with a price of CHF 51 the Sunrise offer "Zero" -available only until February 15- is the cheapest. The new offer Sunrise "Zero 50" with a price of CHF 60.85 yet costs significantly more. The offers from Orange („Optima" / CHF 87) and Swisscom („Swiss Liberty“ / CHF 89.85) are by far more expensive than the Sunrise offers.

For the majority of the costumers the new rates are more expensive than the previous ones. One reason is that Sunrise calculates the new offers based on 60 seconds units. Each call is thus rounded up to the next 60 seconds. This means: The one who calls for 61 seconds pays the same amount as the one who calls for 120 seconds. This equals an average additional amount of CHF 0.18 for each call (given three calls each day this amounts to a monthly CHF 15 of additional costs).

Good to know: If you still have an even older Sunrise subscription, you can benefit from the mostly lower rates of the still active subscriptions, provided that you change to Sunrise "Zero" or "Zero plus" before February 15.
